Coming to Bali, Bring Your ID Card

Police and military tighten security measures at all Bali sea and air gateways. Kompas daily reminds passengers using the ferry crossing from Ketapang (East Java) to Gilamanuk (West Bali) to be sure to bring an official form of identification or face the risk of being denied entry to Bali.

The Head of PT Angkutan Sungai Danau – the ferry authority operating between Java and Bali is urging Bali visitor to heed this reminder or be turned away by Jembrana regional officials who are guarding the sea gateway to West Bali. According to Charda Damanik, over the past few days a number of Bali-bound holidaymakers have been turned away due to their inability to present a valid Indonesian Identity Card (KTP).

Strong Security Measures in Place at Bali Sea and Airport

Tough security measures are now in place at all entry points to Bali including supplementary personnel from the police and armed forces, transportation department officials, medical teams and local community security teams (Pecalang).

At the launching program on September 23rd for the holiday security program dubbed “Operasi Ketupat”, the Deputy-Chief of Police for Bali, Brigadier General Andi Chaerudi, confirmed that 1,500 police have been deployed to Bali’s gateways complemented by 5,000 armed forces.

In addition to large increases in manpower, the effort to keep Bali’s borders safe will be complemented by CCTV camera, trained guard dogs, GPS equipped patrol vehicles and a sophisticated communications-command structure directed form Bali’s Police HQ in Denpasar.
