The birth of four Bengal tigers at Bali Safari and Marine Park is not merely adding scarce animal collection but also stand as a big contribution for the world.

“This can be considering as a great achievement with those four Bengal tigers babies besides since it add their population in the world where they are now almost extinct,” said BSMP marketing manager, Freddy Utama in Gianyar, Bali.

He explained that the four baby tigers two of them are male and the other two are female born in BSMP on August 23, 2009. All of them born from Melly (7 years tiger) with Kevin (8 years male).

“The fourth Bengal babies are named Laksmi, Asoka, Alde and Nao. As a national tourism object and as a conservation institution, BSMP keep to work and playing our role in breeding national and world animals moreover toward rare animals that almost extinct,” he said.

According to Freddy, Bengal tiger can be found in India territory, Nepal and Bangladesh. Since its existence that is almost extinct, this animal is protected by the government and is made into national animals. This tiger is the second largest animal after Siberian tiger. Bengal tiger or panthera tigris lived in an habitat of rain forest or savannah. This animal is characterized with brown and black stripes and thicker than any other tigers.

“This tiger could live for 18 up to 20 years. Nowadays, their populations in the world get decrease; it has been estimate that there are merely 4.000 of them that still survives. Forest damage due to the human development and agricultural effort make this animal threaten to be extinct,” he said.
