API Bali: Textile Industry Threatened
Head of Asosiasi Pertekstilan Indonesia (API) – Indonesian Textile Association – of Bali Province, Anak Agung Ngurah Mahendra stated that one of the industry threatened by the trade agreement between China-ASEAN is textile industry.
“All this time we already get pressure from the presence of China’s textile. Since the price is cheaper than our Indonesian textile product,” said Ngurah Mahendra in Denpasar on Thursday.
He said that the local textile product couldn’t compete with product from china. It is due to the source of that China’s textile is varied in price and far more superior than the Indonesian product.
“We has already get flood by the garment product from china and with this China-ASEAN cooperation implementation makes us couldn’t able to limit the stock anymore,” he said.
According to him, China has enough advance technology together with high-speed production. Their industrial equipment is better than ours.
“We still depend on conventional equipment, such as loom instead of using machine or ATBM. Finally, its hard for use to compete with them,” he said.
With that ASEAN free trading, then our textile industry has no choice other than becoming the squeezed party. If this condition keeps happening then our local textile industry will bankrupt.
“It is true that China product in Bali still few for about five percent, after the agreement happened between China-ASEAN applied then China’s product composition this year will raise for about 10-15 percent,” said Ngurah Mahendra.
Mahendra who also serve as the vice chairman of Kamar Dagang dan Perindustrian (KADIN) Bali – Bali’s Chamber of Commerce and Trading, Bidang Kebijakan Publik dan Perpajakan – Public Police and Taxation Field – stated their wish to maintain national industry from the attacking of China’s product that is applied Cinta Produk Dalam Negeri (CPDN)” – Loves your local product – movement.
“The only way we could fight it just through CPDN movement. We couldn’t protecting the quality they offers. But all of it will back onto our people. Is CPDN movement will follow by the people,” said Ngurah Mahendra.
The government should campaign this CPDN movement. Government and people consistency in campaign their local product is the key to save our local industry.
