Traffic jam in Ubud Gianyar recently becoming worse just like tangled thread. It especially seen from varied of effort conducted by Gianyar regency to solve this problem but everything just get worsen.

It is revealed from studying meeting concerning traffic jam in Ubud tourism area at Puri Ubud on Friday (April 9). The meeting led by Gianyar Regent, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati alias Cok Ace, member of Gianyar Council from Ubud, Ketut Karda, head of Gianyar Police AKBP IK Suardana Msi, head of transportation, information and communication Ida Bagus Gaga Adisaputra, element from general worker bureau, head of Kesbanglinmas and other related institutions.

Cok Ace offered three hypothesis for traffic jam in Ubud, that are weak parking rule, low public awareness and vehicles volume escalation that exceeds the capacity of the road. To studying and finding the reason behind the increasing traffic jam, his party will asked for help and review from Unud expert in Denpasar.

“We didn’t have the real data yet, number of vehicles in or to Ubud under tourism title, number o vehicles belong to local people, how many of them that just passed by and any other. If we have this data then we could form reasonable policy,” he said.
Head of Gianyar transportation, information and communication agency, Ida Bagus Gaga Adisaputra stating firmly that for all this time the local government had been under criticism due to this traffic problem. Whereas the problem is not at the street’s regulation but tend to people mental behavior that is not ready to face the impact of tourism advance in their area.

Member of Gianyar council, Ketut Karda confessed that vehicle growth rate in Ubud tend to exceed the available space. That is why his party agreed to solve this traffic jam problem with synergized parking/traffic rule with people awareness toward space/areal utilization that becoming smaller in Ubud. “Moreover, around 70 percent businessmen in Ubud are Ubud people themselves. So it needs local consciousness,” he explained.

Karda agreed with Cok Ace, half of Astina Ubud field is utilized for tourism vehicle parking area, especially bus. This is the best step could be make by the local government before they arrange long term policy for Ubud structuring, especially in Ubud Market. Head of Gianyar police AKBP I K Suardana, M.Si., said that Ubud traffic jam for all this time produced by some crucial points, they are Ubud intersection, in front of Ubud market and Banjar Kalah T-junction as well as others area. His party suggested that Ubud needs leveling parking area. But Cok Ace against this idea by saying that vertical parking design tend to damage their surrounding environment.
