Selection process for writers participates in “Ubud Writers and Reader Festival 2010” viewed will be tougher than last year competition.

“It is considering number of works we receive we accepted, they came from 105 writers all around Indonesia. That was doubly than what we receive in 2009 selection process,” said “Community Development” UWRF Kadek Purnami in a press conference in Denpasar, on Tuesday.

That works first will be filtered by Indonesian coordinator program UWRF 2010.

Only 40 works could pass this phase. Those whose could escape the filtering process then will be selected by the curator council.

The arrival of those selected writers in Bali will be paid in order for them to appear in the festival. In addition to their works that will be translated into English for their publication in anthology festival 2010.

All this time, UWRF had published two anthologies masterpiece of Indonesian writers, that is “Reasons for Harmony” in 2008 and bilingual anthology “Suka-Duka: Compassion and Solidarity” in 2009.

According to him, all of the selection, participation up to anthological publishing process from Indonesian writers is part of UWRF and HiVos cooperation, a global organization fighting for civil-democratic people in every part of the world.

UWRF first held in 2004 as a cultural respond to push over Bali recovering after Bali Bomb 2001. This annual festival then developed into the biggest literary festival in Asia.

In this recent year, UWRF have trying hard to become a place for young Indonesian writer to introduce their works in an international stage.

UWRF 2010 will be held on October 6-10 and carrying great theme “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika: Harmony in Diversity.” During the festival, the Indonesian writers will have a chance to have dialog with some foreign famous writer such as Louis de Bernieres.

Louis de Bernieres is an England writer with “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” won the best book in Commonwealth Writers Prize and had been translated into 11 languages filming in 2001 stars by Nicholas Cage.
