Painting trade produced by Bali artist starting to get slow in the beginning of 2010 and estimated still under the influence of global economic recession that strike over art lover around the world.

Painting request for Bali artist masterpiece, either for contemporary painting or those made by youth in the area is decreased, said Made Sunarta, a painting artist who also an exporter, when interviewed at his workshop in Ubud, Gianyar, on Wednesday.

Painting trading with different type and style is always fluctuated for this last recent year, precisely when Bali shake by bomb in 2002 in Kuta, the center of tourism in Bali.

Bali painting market is becoming sluggish especially for its worldwide marketing. Still it does not mean those artists stop working. They keep doing their activity but merely decrease the volume, said Made Sunarta whilst mentioned that his painting is stuck in Belgium.

Belgium entrepreneur had made contract with him, ordering youth hand-made painting at the center of culture of Ubud, but due to the economic crisis shock the world caused the order frequency decreased drastically.

Europe consumer who enjoying bright and striking color is still exist but the number is uncertain, considering the art work is part of umpteenth needs for human life. Order from foreign marketing is keep coming but the number is smaller than before. Still he hopes for Christmas and New Year 2011 order would get increase, says Sunarta.

Head of Trading and Industrial Export division of Bali Province, Putu Bagiada, S.E. when confirmed in Denpasar justified that painting as one of souvenir product is becoming sluggish for 2010 export marketing.

The exporters merely able to take 158 pieces of painting from varied style and size to export marketing during January-May 2010 for around 640 thousand US Dollar or decreased 50 percent foreign exchange compared with 2009 that reached 1.2 million Dollar.

Hopefully, after the economic condition in the super power country regain its feet again, painting trading of Bali artist would get more traffic considering the collector also targeting qualified painting from Bali.
